CBD and its numerous health benefits are one of the most discussed topics in the present world. The cannabinoid called CBD is currently available in many forms and they are used widely for managing the symptoms of many severe medical conditions. Cannabidiol or CBD is just one cannabinoid among these and it is found abundantly in the hemp plant and has a lot of health benefits. The extracted CBD is mixed with any carrier oil like hemp seed oil or olive oil to form CBD oil.
Now let us discuss the effectiveness of CBD on symptoms of some severe medical conditions suffered by children.
CBD For Epilepsy
There is only one CBD-based drug that is approved by the FDA and the drug is Epidiolex. This drug is used to control seizures associated with two rare forms of epilepsy called the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.
The effect of Epidiolex was studied on 516 patients who had either Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or Dravet syndrome. There were three double-blind placebo-controlled drug trials during this study. The drug was effective in reducing the frequency of seizures in epilepsy patients.
Epidiolex is a prescription drug which means that you cannot buy Epidiolex without the prescription of a doctor. Just because Epidiolex is effective doesn’t mean that using store-bought CBD oil can help reduce seizure sessions in your child. Epidiolex also has some side effects which include rashes on the skin, elevated liver enzymes, diarrhea, infections, etc.
CBD For Autism
Many studies confirm the potential of CBD oil to improve the symptoms associated with autism. A study, that included 188 children with autism, observed the symptoms of these autistic children after giving them 30 percent CBD oil daily for six months. Almost all of these children showed improvements in symptoms like seizures, rage attacks, and restlessness. Some side effects including lack of reflux and appetite, and sleepiness were also observed among these children. Many studies are also progressing to determine the effectiveness of CBD on children diagnosed with anxiety problems and Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
